Colour pallet ideas for my magazine

Research and planning: research target audience

From the interview I have found out that students would like the magazine to feature bold and bright colours which would catch their eye. They would like the the magazine to feature mixed pictures of students in school and students outside school. Also they would be interested in reading about films, TV programs and music/ festivals. They would also be willing to take part in a competition to win festival tickets. Students would be willing to pay anything up to a £1 or £2 depending on the content of the magazine.

Initial Ideas

Connotations and Masthead for my student magazine:
  • Student Voice -  connotes individuality, confidence
  • The New Generation- Youth, fun, confidence, power
  •

Content:
My magazine will contain all things that relate to students, including photos the majority of them will be of students as this will allow my magazine to connect to the audience. The content will also include tips for studying, gap year ideas, college fashion and opportunities for the future whether it is university or employment, therefore the content makes my magazine quite informative. I will mostly use formal language and only a few informal aspects like a caption of an image, which I hope will interest both types of audiences who are more mature and immature. I will also include a page which will entertain and inform my audience, this will consist of :
Music Festivals
New Films and Music releases
Books

House Style:
I plan to keep the house style consistent using the same colour palette throughout the magazine. The colour scheme will relate to the students. I will uses colours that will be appealing to both male and female genders for example: red, black, green, white, yellow and purple. I will use only a minimum amount of font styles to keep the magazine more formal, but use a different and unique one for the masthead.

Mode of address:
I will use a variety of images also adding direct motive address such as, 'you' and 'you'll' to connect with the audience. I will also use some advertisements and puffs to keep the readers interested, these will all be student related.

Images/Pictures:
The central image on the front cover will cover most of the page to catch the audiences eye. I will use a picture of a student to relate to my audience. The image will also relate to the masthead of the magazine. All the images in the magazine will be student related.

Price:
The price of my magazine would be between 60p and £1.20 due to the fact that this magazine is aimed at students who may not be able to afford more expensive magazines.

Introduction Preliminary Task and Action Plan for Preliminary Task

Before I start the main task, I first will complete the preliminary task which is to produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus sone laid-out text and a masthead.Additional candidates must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of DTP.

Introduction to Brief

As part of my AS media coursework, the brief requires me to create the front page, contents and a double page feature spread of a new music magazine. I have created this blog in order to record my research and planning which will help me to produce a successful magazine.
